After seven years – how time flies – this was my last walk for Hampshire Life, I hope you have all enjoyed accompanying me on my walks exploring some of the most beautiful parts of Hampshire and I wish you all, lots of interesting walks in the coming months and years.
This month’s walk meanders through the New Forest in the south-west corner of Hampshire.
This month’s walk starts out from Oakley to the west of Basingstoke. The village, which consists of East Oakley and Church Oakley – the latter being close to the church, was mentioned in the Domesday Book, though its history goes back much further than that as there are a number of ancient burial mounds, or tumuli, nearby.
This month’s walk is based round the village of Preston Candover, tucked amongst the gently rolling landscape that lies between Basingstoke, Alton and Alresford.
Head south for a wander alongside the picturesque River Hamble.
Head to the Meon Valley for a wander through Exton and Warnford with some great views from Beacon Hill.
Head to the western edge of the New Forest for an easy wander over the neighbouring commons of Rockford and Ibsley.
Head to the north-west corner of Hampshire for a wander through the picturesque village of Hannington tucked within the North Wessex Downs AONB.
This month we head to the village of Houghton to the west of Winchester, for a fairly easy dog-friendly wander along paths and tracks through the lovely rolling Hampshire countryside on the west side of the Test Valley.
Head to Little London near the northern edge of Hampshire for a walk through the ancient woodland of Pamber Forest.
